Overview

The Cavachon is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and understand that you can get any combination of the characteristics found in either breed. This designer breed is recognized by ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club).

The Cavachon is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise, two Cavachons, or a Cavachon and one of the original parent breeds. This cross often results in a small, cuddly, and friendly companion dog that also usually has a low-shedding coat.

Although this dog breed is not recognized by the AKC, they are recognized by other dog registries and organizations. The Cavachon is recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club and other associations like the ACA, ACHC, DRA, and more.

Temperament

With some of the most affectionate dog breeds as parents, it’s no surprise that Cavachons tend to be extremely friendly and affectionate. They tend to have a happy outlook and are energetic and playful. Plus, they get along great with children, other dogs, and other pets. The Cavachon tends to retain a puppy-like demeanor throughout their life. Well-socialized, they even tend to be open and friendly with strangers. They thrive on attention and affection, so anyone they meet is just another person to give them what they love. They make good watchdogs, but do not make good guard dogs as they are far more interested in making friends. This can make them prone to barking a lot, especially if you accidentally train them into it. It’s not a bad idea to start to train your dog to stop barking to keep it from becoming a nuisance.
